Storm At The Rumble

Rumble Takeoff!
Last Thursday, despite a mild storm, the airplane rumble continued. The start at at airport Hau Koda was without much problems as the planes took to the sky on their way to Abbotts.

One of the airplanes was the Bay City Postal Service that had a truckload of mail and parcels with it. The pilot was Postmaster Thomas Hooker combining work with pleasure. Kinnaird sat in the back, taking picures.

Half way to Abbotts, near Luna Point, winds started to pick up, a storm was brewing.

With a tailwind the Bay City Postal Service machine, a modern Douglas DC-3, went like lightning so fast.

Coming near Abbotts the pilot slammed on the brakes, without much effect as the airplane was still in the air and heavy loaded.

The only way to reduce speed was to wiggle wobble towards the airport hoping to loose speed, or go-around. Since the postal service is always in a hurry a go-around was not an option.

The pilot screamed into the mike "GIVE ME ROOM!" as the machine came hurtling towards the tarmac. The other machines of the rumble went well out of the way of the doomed machine.

Just as planned...

With a magic wiggle wobble the pilot landed the machine sideways on the runway (some luck might have been involved). After that the passenger ran towards the restroom for some needed R and R.

Some mainlanders will receive a parcel with broken goods inside.

The airport at Hau Koda is often full, delaying planned departs. For that the Bay city counsel has proposed to build an additional airport at Moose Beach. Citizens from Shermerville and Molesworth have united to fight this proposal threatening to take it to the highest court. They fear an increase of airplane traffic and noise pollution. City counsel suggested "plug your ears with a prim".

Airport at Moose Beach planned?

The Bay City Alliance organizes every week on Thursday a rumble. Everybody is invited. Keep an eye out for announcements in the Bay City Alliance group or ask someone from Bay City. The rumble starts mostly around 7 PM SLT. A more Europe friendly time has been tried but wasn't much of a success.

The rumbles are races with planes, trains & automobiles, and boats. Join us!

[edit: the Zoom meeting we used to make this report had a few hiccups. The original report mentions Kinn as the pilot, it was Thomas. No pizza for the reporter! (Vick)]

Epic Flights

In April, while your favourite newspaper, the Bay City Post, was coming out of hibernation important news didn't receive the attention it deserves.
Departure at dawn
On April the 15th, the very same day that the continent Bellisseria emerged from the void, one of Bay City smallest explorers, Marianne McCann, set out on an epic journey.

With her old but sturdy airplane, the PA-18, she set out to make the longest trip possible. From the Northern most tip of the Hetrocera Atoll, the region Brindle, to the Southern tip of Jeogeot, the region Almo Bay.

I will let her speak about that journey.

I crossed four continents!

I expected the trip to be harder, given the current issues with region crossings.

All told I face three disconnects from bad crossings (One in the Heterocera Atoll, one in Sansara, and one in Jeogeot) and four nasty orbs (Two in the Heterocera Atoll, one in Sansara, one in Jeogeot). Also tussled with a ban line when recovering from one of the disconnects.
Winterlands
Total flight time was nearly 2 hours all told. Unfortunately, I lost my number of regions due to a couple of the crashes, but "a couple hundred" seems right.

To replicate this flight, I highly recommend starting from the north: Filip has a Rez zone. Also, the PA-18 allows you to adjust the trim to give you more lift, too. Use that, cuz it's super helpful.

Also, be wary of the mountains in Heterocera and Sansar, and watch for monster-sized skyboxes in Jeogeot. Finally, open Rez is hard to come by yet in the new regions. Treasure it when you find some.
Arrival !!
After that record making flight Marianne received a valuable unique gold trophy from the hands of T.J. Hooker. Route 66 was closed for that ceremony, traffic was diverted.
Proud Mari
This news received just a small paragraph in the Police Blotter due to the closing of the road. Thanks to the magic of The Feed (when it works) we could revisit this epic flight and report about it.
Fast backwards, or forwards depending on the viewpoint, to August the 6th. Vick Forcella made a trip from the airport at Hau Koda to the airfield in the region Lapera in his SA Enstrom 280C helicopter. A challenge because of the altitude of 344 meters.

Marianne contacted Vick, one of the tallest explorers from Bay City, and gave him the challenge to replicate her journey from Brindle towards Almo Bay.
Vick set off on August the 7th in the pooring rain. He found a place to rezz in Brindle and placed his Enstom there to start the journey.
Next to gaining sufficient height to cross mountains there were many other challenges. Banlines, security orbs, skyboxes and finding places to restart the journey. Though a helicopter can lift up from tight spaces, there should not be blade crashing objects near such as trees, houses and hills.

Oddly enough there were no bad region crossings.
The Enstrom isn't the fastest machine in the world so Vick took two days (approx. 4 hours) to finish the challenge in Almo Bay.

Half way Vick slept in the light tower in Bellisseria. On departure he discovered his helicopter loaded with boxes given to him by ZZ bottom (foneco.zuzu). Thank you ZZ!

Vick ordered one of the best goldsmiths to handcraft a personal trophy to commemorate the flight, and placed it in the Bay City Post offices.

Bay City Post - April 2017

WELCOME to the sixty-seventh issue of the Bay City Post - Keeping you updated on the best city on the Grid!

EverFest

April in Bay City always starts with a celebration of our favorite April Fool - Ever Dreamscape! This year, the celebrations lasted an entire week, starting with the Rumble on Thursday, March 30th featuring crazy vehicles and shark costumes...mostly on fire. On Friday, March 31st there was a charity bowlathon at the Fairgrounds, with all proceeds going to Child's Play. And on the anniversary of Ever's birth, April Fool's Day, a party was held at the Bay City Brewery, followed by general mayhem and a mass torching of the City. The fire department, as per usual, was nowhere to be found. (More on that later.)

Guest Column - Roc Plutonian

This month the Post welcomes Roc Plutonian, landlord of the Post building and a dear friend of Ever's, as he offers a touching tribute to our Patron Firebug:

Ev·er
synonyms: always, forever, eternally, until hell freezes over, until the cows come home, until mimes speak at the Pen, until Bay City is free of fire
  1. at any time: "nothing Ever seemed to ruin her appetite for fun"
  2. used in comparisons for emphasis: "After starring in a late-night Etv episode, they felt better than Ever before"
  3.  at all times; always: "Ever the woman of action, she encouraged all residents to get involved"
  4. increasingly; constantly: "committing Ever larger crimes of mayhem in the City"
  5. used for emphasis in questions and other remarks, expressing astonishment or outrage: "who Ever heard of a shark brewing beer?"
Ever Dreamscape was always conspiring to get the residents of Bay City to gather via the Bay City Rumbles, the car washes, her wacky ETv stories and so on. The now-annual EverFest expands her vision of a community that lets out their wacky inner selves. For the last several days, the City was ablaze with Ever-inspired activities: Mime Protests, Rumbles, Bowling and Brewery Dances...and of course a fire or two! Gatherings like this are what bring a community together. When asked about EverFest, Bay City Resident Maureen Boccaccio said, "It makes me remember the fun of SL..just like Ever did." And that’s what SL is all about. May we all continue with Ever's vision: to gather, be wacky, and above all, have fun!

Firehouse in Dennis for Rent

With all of the mayhem in the City this past weekend, it has come to the attention of the Editor (who also happens to own the Bay City Fire Station #2 in Dennis) that due to her lack of time and attention, fire service in the City is sorely lacking. A concerned resident captured the shocking image below of a poor noob being pushed to his death  unable to be saved by one of our brave firefighters.

Shocking photos captured by Evola Courtois
Our brave volunteers need a guiding hand to help them fight fire in our fair City, since fires seem to happen here a LOT. If anyone is interested in taking on this role (purely opt-in RP; applicant must have a strong working knowledge of Bay City culture) please contact Kinn by email at kinnaird.fiachra@ gmail.com.

New Postal Service in Bay City

Send your package in style with the Bay City Postal Service! Our cargo handlers will ship your package to anyone, anywhere in SL. We will ship not only by air, but by sea and land as well. Neither rain nor snow nor lag of grid can stay these messengers about their duty. (We are, however, not responsible for wet, frozen, or otherwise lost parcels…) All services are roleplay only and are opt-in. If the recipient does not wish to roleplay the delivery, we will simply pass them the package.

The boxes work just like the many postal boxes you see in First Life. You address a package and drop it in, the postal worker picks it up and delivers it. Local Bay City mail will be handled by the Bay City Post Office, and large parcels or mail going outside of Bay City will be handled by GridWide Cargo Service.

Mail can be delivered to any mailbox that has Allow Inventory Drop set to TRUE. First, you need to find one of our boxes, which are located at the following parcels:
To use the service, select Send a Package from the menu. Enter the legacy name of the avatar you want the package sent to into the textbox IE: ThomasHooker Resident.

Hold down the CTRL button and drag your item into the mailbox. Please include a notecard with the recipient’s name and the location of the delivery. The package must be transfer enabled or we cannot deliver it.

We will pick up the package at our earliest availability. We try to always deliver in character, and using realistic vehicles to do so but in some cases that is not possible. We will walk the package to the destination if we cannot use vehicles in that area, for example a roleplay region that does not allow non-residents to use vehicles.

We will place a mailbox at your location. I will need an invite to the land owning group, however, I will leave the group once the mailbox is placed.
