IT'S TIME FOR BAY CITY'S SWEET 16

First Mole Project Reaches Another Milestone year

BAY CITY, SL (May 15, 2024) - In May of 2008, the mainland community of Bay City was opened to Second Life® residents across the Grid. Now, Bay City, the first major project undertaken by the “Moles” of the Linden Department of Public Works, will turn sixteen. To honour their anniversary, Bay City Residents will be hosting their annual parade and live music event this May, and welcome everyone to enjoy their fine City.

Bay City is the largest community-focused virtual urban area in Second Life, hosting 24 Residential regions, and an additional 24 or so Linden-owned areas surrounding the City. It has a sizeable number of community-focused Residents in the Bay City Alliance, working to make the City the best place it can be. With this in mind, the City hopes that everyone will feel welcome to join in -- as a participant or a spectator, in our annual parade and live music celebration.

Parade participants are asked to gather at noon SLT/PDT on Sunday, the 19th of May, to line-up at the band shell in Bay City - Harwich. The parade will wend its way down Route 66 beginning at 12:30 p.m. SLT/PDT, and will conclude at the Bay City Fairgrounds in the North Channel region. We encourage people to bring their own wearable float, to march, and to show off their part of Second Life with the rest of the revelers.

Celebration goods, including parade float bases and ideas, are available at the Bay City Community Center, in the Daley Bay region for those who wish to be a part of the event. Ample viewing areas are provided for all. The music event is also open to all who desire to attend -- not only Residents of Bay City, but the entire grid is welcome.

Bay City Residents hold annual celebration of Linden Department of Public Works

BAY CITY, SL (21st January, 2024) - Bay City will once again hold its annual “Mole Day” event to salute the The Linden Department of Public Works' Moles and their many contributions to Bay City and the rest of the Second Life® Grid.

Traditionally, the Mole Day event is held on or around Groundhog Day: for 2024, it will be held on Sunday, the 4th of February, beginning at 11:00 a.m. SLT. This year’s event will feature DJ GoSpeed of KONA stream followed by a live performance by Evee Blackstar (user name Harleen Jester) at 12:00 p.m. SLT.

Of course, Moles and Lindens are also welcome to join in the festivities.

"Moles" are members of The Linden Department of Public Works (LDPW). The LDPW is a team of Resident builders, scriptwriters, and others to create new content on Linden Lab's behalf and to the benefit of all. These Residents contractors all have Second Life accounts with the last name “Mole.”.

Moles build the infrastructure of Second Life: the public roads and railways, items in our coastal waterways and protected lands, and even larger scale projects like the Linden Homes regions, premium content and experiences, and much more.

Warning: Canal Walls Could Collapse

Authorities of our Fine City are warning that canal walls are loose and could collapse.

It has been observed that Laetizia Coronet was present at all the walls that were crumbling. It has been suggested she is responsible for the poor state the walls are in.

Also, she is an active member of a militia and has been arrested before.

If you encounter her, please inform the authorities and pretend all is ok.

SL19B On Fire!

The 19th Second Life birthday (SL19B) celebrations ended in disaster. Fire destroyed most of the Bay City exhibit.

Fire Starts

Security camera footage showed that the fire started at the Bay City exhibit. The fire spread around the exhibit like, wild fire setting ablaze all the regions. During the fire nobody was near yet some claim to have heard loud laughing in a high pitched voice running away.

Bay City Exhibition On Fire
The Bay City fire department (BCFD) was alarmed and scrambled to the struck place to save as much as possible.

BCFD Scrambles

The last footage of the security camera, before it melted, was a view of a red hot gear that appeared to be spinning.

Red Hot Gear

The Bay City police department (BCPD) managed to retrieve the, still hot, gear with a giant helicopter, for further investigations.

Gear Transported To Bay City

The analysis so far was inconclusive. It is possible that the gear wasn't oiled enough and spinned out of control. Sabotage as a cause can not be ruled out.

Analysis By The BCPD

The fire was mostly put out by the BCFD however the damage was beyond repair. All around regions crashed making recovery of exhibits near impossible.

The mayori (TINM) states

"There was significant damage to the north (left hand) side of the structure, right above the wall discussing the Caledon Cold War. Aside from the obvious fire and other damage, everything seemed in place. We did not recover the "Caledon Cares" box, however, but I assume that may have been lost in the fire. We couldn't do much on site, as we had to disassemble the build and pack out. We did save this gear for examination, as it seemed relevant."

This newspaper will keep you up-to-date on further developments.

For Ever Night Ahead!

Dear readers,

A small editorial to give you a heads-up.

April the first is supposed to be a fun day filled with jokes and pranks. Not in Bay City! Our culture gives a complete different meaning to April the first.

Eversday! and Eversnight!

Events in our Fine City start at the Bay City Fairgrounds. This is NOT an official event! Gatherings of people will be near Dennis!

BCFD
Chances are people will run with scissors, dress up as sharks and throw exploding chickens. Worse, When they can they (named Everfools) will set fire to almost everything! They are dangerous!

Despite relentless efforts our Fine City has not been able to halt the Everfools and each year they come back. When they started, the Everfools were anonymous locals. These days the Everfools come from everywhere around the grid! (some hint that Linden Lab supports them)

Please avoid the Everfools and do NOT follow their lead. Report them to the BCPD and report the fires at the BCFD. Do NOT take images of fires and Everfools!

Not that it'll help but ya never know.

Best of luck to you!

Reporter Vick Forcella
