Autumnal carnival and party offers music, merriment, and fun!

BAY CITY, SL (13 September, 2025) -  Oktoberfest is a beloved folk festival honored in Germany and elsewhere around the world.

The Bay City Alliance is joining in as well, and is once again honoring Oktoberfest from the 19th of September to the 5th of October, 2025, at the Bay City Fairgrounds in North Channel.

Oktoberfest occurs annually from the end of September until the first Sunday in October. Heralding the harvest and all it provides, Oktoberfest features a beer festival, numerous traditional German foods, and a carnival.

With the carnival and biergarten available for the full two week fun, the event will culminate in a party in the Biergarten from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. SLT on the 5th of October.  Providing themed music is DJ GoSpeed of KONA Stream.

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab® and home to the Bay City Alliance. The Bay City Alliance was founded in 2008 to promote the Bay City regions of Second Life® and provide a venue for Bay City Residents and other interested parties to socialize and network. It is now the largest Bay City group, and home to most Residents of Bay City.

WELCOME to the eightieth issue of the Bay City Post.
Keeping you updated on the best city on the Grid!

Your reporters could be found everywhere in our world, to investigate and report about our Fine City and everything that could have an impact on it.
Win an amazing award!

Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest didn't happen. The Bay City Brewery was hit by heavy rainfall diluting the beer making it undrinkable. Instead of the Oktoberfest residents were invited to Iva's place in Bay City to enjoy the fellowship, frivolity, and dance with nice people, and drink French wine imported from Jeogeot.
Life and times at the police- and fire-stations, not as boring as some might suspect

Emperor Michael
Emperor Michael has a firm believe that since his last proclamation the amount of ban lines has reduced drastically. We could not find any evidence to justify that believe but we won't tell him that. Whenever he speaks to someone he speaks about the improvements he made to our Fine City.
There are reports that the sewer system where he lives was flooded last month and that most of his belongings were lost in the void to the South of the city.
We could not verify this as we have no idea where he lives nor do we know of any flooding.
Kenny amazes himself

Bellisseria trailer-park
Jeogeot colonials have discovered free areas in the new continent Bellisseria. They flocked en-mass to the zone and dropped their trailers and campers there to claim that land as their own. Even Sylvia was found there dancing around a campfire. (red)

Qie runs but is caught by himself

Second Life Blogger Network
Linden Lab, one of the organizations responsible for maintaining our Fine City and sewer system has started a new initiative named the Second Life Blogger Network. We are deeply surprised that they didn't contact us yet to ask us to participate.
We intend to participate on that network to lift the standard, to make it better and have them be better informed.
Our creative department is actively working on one missing item being a Logo for your most favorite newspaper. Once that is available and approved by our approval department we will proceed to help the Second Life Blogger Network with our vast knowledge.
We welcome the introduction of a new cryptic abbreviation: SLBN. As if we don't have enough (AIWDHE).
Dakota Schwade finds herself at a beatnik place

Thomas Hooker freed of accusations
Despite strong evidence that our chief of police, Thomas Hooker, is involved in illegal activities the ethics bureau could not find any wrongdoing. The car that suddenly was bought was funded with undisclosed gifts from undisclosed gift-givers but none was deemed illegal enough to be deemed illegal. A monitoring program was set up to eradicate any future accusations. So do not accuse our chief of police, else you could fall victim of that program.
Marianne remembers, lag in the city

Green Water
From various parts of our Fine City come reports that canals have turned green. It is yet unknown what the cause is. Pollution from the Bay City Brewery could not be excluded.
Old Town is a mess

Hallowe'en Hay Maze
As we speak work has started to erect the Hallowe'en Hay Maze on the Bay City Fairgrounds. You can expect the most scary event in Second Life and surrounding worlds. While visiting fire and/or smoking is strictly prohibited. After the destruction of last year the fairgrounds are a no-go zone for cows.
Character statement

Bay City Post, Edition 79

WELCOME to the seventy-ninth issue of the Bay City Post
- Keeping you updated on the best city on the Grid!

Mole appreciation day
On August the 31st the Bellisseria community organised their first Mole Appreciation Day (aka First Annual Mole Day Party) to thank them for the work they have done so far for Bellisseria and it's growing community.
More then 70 people showed up including at least 7 moles, breaking the sim.
This means that the moles now have two events every year to go to, and get worms. Bay City celebrates Mole Day each year in the beginning of February.
The more mole days the better! Our critters deserve plenty of worms!

Editorial-
From the standpoint of Bay City it might appear that Bellisseria is stealing the best of Bay City. For parts that is true, but is it bad?

Bay City has grown a community from the day it was created. We share experiences that are hard to compare with other communities. The Bay City Alliance is the leading force behind our initiatives, including this newspaper.

Bellisseria is new and fresh. The community is fragmented into 20 groups with 20 different websites. It will take some time before things settle down and Bellisseria has a sustainable community.

It is good that Bellisseria grows it's own community. I feel it can "borrow" as much from Bay City as they want to grow that community. Next to that, Bay City can not block initiatives from the community of Bellisseria.

One of the cornerstones of the Bay City community is it's relentless effort to support "good causes" most notably Child's Play. None of the actions of the Bay City Community has a commercial intent. I expect the same from Bellisseria.

There is much that differs between Bay City and Bellisseria. There much that unites us. When Bay City can help, Bay City will help.
Go Bellisseria!
Topaz Oasis
The furry community at Topaz Oasis has sealed a cultural exchange treaty with Bay City. Part of this treaty is the placement of the Bay City Post newspaper vendor as a gesture of good will. Bay City kindly supports this initiative and provides the newspaper completely for free!
Topaz Oasis is home to the United Furry Outpost (UFO) and AGRA racing.
Feel free to explore Topaz Oasis.

Hot Bay City Nights
The sad news is Hot Bay City Nights didn't make it this year.
In previous years it ran a whole week and required a lot of volunteers. This year, despite best efforts (begging and offering slow cooked sweet marinated noobs), not enough volunteers were available.
Also there was that thing called RL, heavy overrated but a force to be reckoned with.
Please keep your agenda free for 2020!

The Experience Teleporter
We wrote about this a month ago. Please read it again as it is so fun to use! I am using it in trap-doors, ladders and the entrance into the castle made with a mega prim. Getting the key to work is a bit fiddly, specially on a different parcel. Try and try again and it will work.

Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest is supported and organised by the Bay City Brewery. Keep an eye out on the events in Bay City to find out when and where you can get your beer and do the polka. You can expect it at the end of September.

Bay City Post - October 2016

WELCOME to the sixty-first issue of the Bay City Post! - Keeping you updated on the best city on the grid!

Fall is in full swing, and while it seems to have brought with it a crime spree or two (have you noticed how busy the BCPD is lately??), everyone in the City seems unusually mellow. Perhaps this is due to the mysterious fire at Barnstable Naturals a few days ago?

Speaking of mind-altering substances, on October 23, 2016, at 2 PM SLT, the Bay City Brewery will welcome all and sundry to its annual Oktoberfest celebration! Come down and join DJ GoSpeed Racer of Kona Stream and partake in Bay City's original questionably safe adult beverage and industrial process....and see for yourself why we say "It's Something In The Water!" *Root Beer also available for the young and the young at heart.

We hope you can all join us for some barrel-rolling fun on October 23rd. For now, sit back, have a cold Bay City Brew, and enjoy the October edition of the Bay City Post!

THE BIG 4-0

This October marks the 40th edition of the Bay City Post. Who could have pictured that when Ever Dreamscape came to the Bay City Alliance and said "we need a newspaper," that it would still somehow be going today? Yet here we are, so many months later!

We're now heading into the Autumn of the year. Blossoms fade, leaves fall, and you can begin to feel the crispness in the air as Old Man Winter's icy grasp slowly begins to take hold. Greens give way to golds and reds on the trees, and the nights grow ever so longer.

This is the month of ghouls and ghosties, when the crypt doors creek and ghosts are present. When the grid quickly transforms from Summer delights to the dark horrors of Hallowe'en. We'll be seeing the Hay Maze again taking over the fairgrounds, while the year round creeps of the Hotel Falmouth and the Asylum await the easily spooked!

Sunny Salutations   \o/

OKTOBERFEST IS A BLAST

Bay City's third annual Oktoberfest was helps on Sunday, the 28th of September at the Bay City Brewery, to the appreciation of a large and thirsty crowd of avatars.

DJ Cali Souther played a selection of tunes stretch from traditional Oktoberfest fare, polka tunes, German-language rock and pop, and just about anything patrons could request.  Meanwhile, the spirits continued ot be poured.

Truly, Bay City Brew lives up to its slogan, "There's Something In The Water." Pygar Bu was spotted swimming in the tanks for the event, which was assumed to only further season that special mix of gentle hops,  sweet barley, and reclaimed gray water.

Barrels were rolled, beers were served, and a good time was had by all.

Oktoberfest was started in Bay City by Ever Dreamscape, and the event served a double purpose. An hour before Oktoberfest activities started, the dedication of the Ever Dreamscape memorial in Bay City - Dennis was held. After the dedication, the crowd marched down route 66, led by the wailing cries of blurtophones to the bay City Brewery.

THE DEDICATION OF THE

EVER DREAMSCAPE MEMORIAL

Welcome Everyone.

Today, we dedicate this virtual space in the memory of our departed Ever Dreamscape.

Let it be known that Ever Dreamscape lit a fire in Bay City.

I don't mean one of her scores of literal virtual fire this time, however. No, Ever Dreamscape quite literally helped transform this place.

This place is a place to remember all she did and all she was.

To list her accomplishments in Bay City is to list nearly everything that happened over the last several years. She turned events like Mole Day and the tree lighting and turned into much larger affairs, while being at the birth of other Bay City events such as our Oktoberfest this afternoon. She started the Bay City Post, our monthly newspaper. She helped get the fairgrounds expanded. She created the Bay City Brewery, She helped create The Pen, and she was in -- as I said -- everything.

As you sit at this memorial, look beyond it. You can see the Park Plaza Hotel, Rez N Ride, the Hyperbole Building which serves as home to Etv and the Bay City Post, and -- on a good day -- her DMV/insurance/driving school. You can also see the buildings of others who were at least in part inspired to be her thanks to Ever Dreamscape. Our city itself serves as part of this memorial.

Central to the memorial itself is an eternal flame. It's one of Ever's, sourced from the driving school. It is one of those that helped the city burn in her honor when she perished. As long as there is a Bay City, there will be this fire to help consume our memory.

To the left is a book of poetry, composed by Ever Dreamscape under an alternate account. This book led to the initial creation of The Pen as a place to host poetry and other events. She would regularly attend Espresso Yourself night and share. At the last she attended, she even dominated the stage, telling her own life story. That piece, "Hero's Journey," can be found on her old website at http://21stnervousbreakdown.blogspot.com/2014/03/heros-journey.html - if you have not read it, please do when you can. And spend some time reading the book here too, if you wish.

To the right of the fire is a frame. In it, you can see a looped slide show of photos of Ever Dreamscape. Both ones that all of us took of her, as well as ones she took in her many SL feed "feed-spam" marathons are presented. To each of you here today, I wish to offer you a copy of these photos as well, in the form of a memory book. Keep Ever with you always, even if she's not here in her living avatar form now.

In her last weeks with us, more than once, she told me how important butterflies were to her. As a result, thanks to the talents of Alisha Matova, a dream image that came to my mind in her passing is realized. When you stand near the memorial, an endless stream of flame colored butterflies is released, spiraling upwards to the heavens. This is Ever's spirit, free and wild, unconfined.

The butterflies may even be more than they seem. If you can catch one, you can ride it. One last bit of silly fun to be had in Ever Dreamscape's name.

Before I finish, I want to acknowledge those who made this memorial possible. I mentioned already Alisha Matova, who built the butterflies and the triple-column plinth. Pygar Bu put together the flowers. Robin Sojourner and I created the frame slide show from her and your photos, and I did the rest of the overall structure. The Linden Department of Public Works, most notably Michael Linden and Sylvan Mole, helped with the permanent placement of the memorial here in Bay City - Dennis.

I also wish to thank each of you for being here, for being a part of this day. This memorial is in her memory, but it is also for each of us to use, to reflect on, and enjoy.

OPINION: DO IT BECAUSE IT'S HARD

Recently, at a meeting regarding police and fire role play in Bay City reached an impasse, with one side requesting the role play respect the Bay City "theme period" ("the American urban experience, between 1940 and 1965, perhaps best typified by Chicago circa 1950 and marked by a distinct deco influence."), with another insisting that this was too much of a hurdle, as vendors had not made adequate vehicles and equipment for the time frame.

I will admit: I am in the latter camp. I respect the difficulties, and I understand that the most well-known emergency vehicle builders out there may well not have built a 1950 Seagrave Fire Truck or Nash Ambassador police cruiser, let alone the sort of gear that might have made the cast of Dragnet proud.

But I would say this. Keep after those builders you like, and try to convince them there is a market for such. If it doesn't exist, no one will buy it and they will potentially lose out.

Also, look to other builders: Bay City's own celebrated car constructor, ADudeNamed Anthony has built both police and fire units that do fit the period. They may not have all the bells and whistles you are used to from a builder dedicated to adding cop or fire gear to a ride, but they're really great mesh vehicles.

And really, this can apply to anyone. It can be easy to grab the same cookie-cutter modern look seen elsewhere in Second Life. Or you can go that extra step and seek out something within the theme era. It's part of what makes Bay City that much more special when we all do it together.

In short, don't "cop out" and go the easy route. Every place in Second Life can have the same cookie cutter modern Crown Vics and other gear. Make this something special, elite, and different. To paraphrase JFK, do it not because it is easy, but because it is hard.

New Olde Bay City Brewery Back!!

Yes the Bay City Brewery has been reassembled and is back in its former location in Argos, on Route 66, and across from the Bay City Department of Sanitation. Chief Brewmaster Ivan Suen has created some signature brews (and by signature we mean we’ll be needing your signature on a waiver before drinking any of the brew). The Brewpub is now open to the public, and is featuring live DJ’s on Most Saturday nights, some Fridays and occasionally after the Bay City Rumbles on Thursdays.

*Although some speculate the location adjacent to the Sanitation department is the cause of the signature green beers glow. We say… It’s Something in the Water!!!   ;/

What a Character!

With the advent of advent… wait what? That’s a different month?? Ok lessee. With Halloween just around the corner, the moles are again coming to town to enhance some of Bay City’s spookier prims for your pixel enjoyment.

Let’s help welcome people with some avatastic entertainment and visit these sites to greet our ghoulish guests.

Seriously I myself love to role play and/or do a little “performance art” at the South Channel Asylum, the Falmouth Hotel, and at the hay maze in the Bay City Fairgrounds. It’s fun to dress up and “play” the role of a lunatic, a ghosted bell hop, a wicked witch or giant spider and more. So how ‘bout we costume up and make these builds come alive as guests pour into the city?!

Come reap the freaky fun!
