At all the events of our Fine City donation bins are placed all around. The donations end up at Child's Play Charity (www.childsplaycharity.org). Please visit the link and consider making a RL donation.

Our total funds raised for the holiday season, counting all the bins, the auction, and all other donations in 2022 puts us at a whopping...

Amazing job all -- and here's to a great 2023!

BAY CITY PREPARES FOR THIS YEAR’S “PRIM DROP"

Bay City's Gala New Year's event set for 31st December

BAY CITY, SL (27th December, 2021) - Citizens of Bay City, Second Life's® city by the bay, will be marking the end of the year in fine fashion, attending the annual "Prim Drop" in the Bay City Fairgrounds in North Channel on the evening of the 31st of December.

The party will include an expanded, two-hour set of DJed tunes presented by Marianne McCann, as well as fireworks and other festive fun. Food, drink, and other party favours will be provided for all attendees.

This will also be the last event within Bay City this year for donating to Child's Play Charity (www.childsplaycharity.org). (there was a minor hiccup here at the Bay City Post, hence a small delay in publication. Happy new year from the BCP!!)

Fundraising Totals!

Our annual fundraising for Child's Play Charity (www.childsplaycharity.org) roared back with a vengeance this year!

After a hiatus in 2018, the auction returned to the annual tree lighting with some amazing prizes. Several vehicles stood shoulder to shoulder -- or would that be wheel to wheel -- with amazing art pieces. A new Nordic from Lusch Motors and a large helicopter from Shergood Aviation were the top earners among the vehicles, with pieces from Cica Ghost, Trinity Yazimoto, Bryn Oh, and Evola Courtois dominating the artwork. There were even some amazing gaming materials, and two -- count 'em, two -- 1024m Bay City parcels donated by Mitch Merricks!

In the auction, we raised a total of L$139,225: a new high over any of our previous auctions.

That's not all, however. In addition to the auction, we had donation bins throughout the fairgrounds. These bins were available not only during the tree lighting, but also at the lighted boat parade, the skate party, and the prim drop, as well as any time someone came to the fairgrounds.

The donation bins took in an additional L$104,100 in total donations, making for a grand total of…

L$243,325

Our previous record was set 2017, where we raised L$185,406 for the entire season. So, once again, we broke our previous record!

Good job, everyone!

Bay City Post - April 2017

WELCOME to the sixty-seventh issue of the Bay City Post - Keeping you updated on the best city on the Grid!

EverFest

April in Bay City always starts with a celebration of our favorite April Fool - Ever Dreamscape! This year, the celebrations lasted an entire week, starting with the Rumble on Thursday, March 30th featuring crazy vehicles and shark costumes...mostly on fire. On Friday, March 31st there was a charity bowlathon at the Fairgrounds, with all proceeds going to Child's Play. And on the anniversary of Ever's birth, April Fool's Day, a party was held at the Bay City Brewery, followed by general mayhem and a mass torching of the City. The fire department, as per usual, was nowhere to be found. (More on that later.)

Guest Column - Roc Plutonian

This month the Post welcomes Roc Plutonian, landlord of the Post building and a dear friend of Ever's, as he offers a touching tribute to our Patron Firebug:

Ev·er
synonyms: always, forever, eternally, until hell freezes over, until the cows come home, until mimes speak at the Pen, until Bay City is free of fire
  1. at any time: "nothing Ever seemed to ruin her appetite for fun"
  2. used in comparisons for emphasis: "After starring in a late-night Etv episode, they felt better than Ever before"
  3.  at all times; always: "Ever the woman of action, she encouraged all residents to get involved"
  4. increasingly; constantly: "committing Ever larger crimes of mayhem in the City"
  5. used for emphasis in questions and other remarks, expressing astonishment or outrage: "who Ever heard of a shark brewing beer?"
Ever Dreamscape was always conspiring to get the residents of Bay City to gather via the Bay City Rumbles, the car washes, her wacky ETv stories and so on. The now-annual EverFest expands her vision of a community that lets out their wacky inner selves. For the last several days, the City was ablaze with Ever-inspired activities: Mime Protests, Rumbles, Bowling and Brewery Dances...and of course a fire or two! Gatherings like this are what bring a community together. When asked about EverFest, Bay City Resident Maureen Boccaccio said, "It makes me remember the fun of SL..just like Ever did." And that’s what SL is all about. May we all continue with Ever's vision: to gather, be wacky, and above all, have fun!

Firehouse in Dennis for Rent

With all of the mayhem in the City this past weekend, it has come to the attention of the Editor (who also happens to own the Bay City Fire Station #2 in Dennis) that due to her lack of time and attention, fire service in the City is sorely lacking. A concerned resident captured the shocking image below of a poor noob being pushed to his death  unable to be saved by one of our brave firefighters.

Shocking photos captured by Evola Courtois
Our brave volunteers need a guiding hand to help them fight fire in our fair City, since fires seem to happen here a LOT. If anyone is interested in taking on this role (purely opt-in RP; applicant must have a strong working knowledge of Bay City culture) please contact Kinn by email at kinnaird.fiachra@ gmail.com.

New Postal Service in Bay City

Send your package in style with the Bay City Postal Service! Our cargo handlers will ship your package to anyone, anywhere in SL. We will ship not only by air, but by sea and land as well. Neither rain nor snow nor lag of grid can stay these messengers about their duty. (We are, however, not responsible for wet, frozen, or otherwise lost parcels…) All services are roleplay only and are opt-in. If the recipient does not wish to roleplay the delivery, we will simply pass them the package.

The boxes work just like the many postal boxes you see in First Life. You address a package and drop it in, the postal worker picks it up and delivers it. Local Bay City mail will be handled by the Bay City Post Office, and large parcels or mail going outside of Bay City will be handled by GridWide Cargo Service.

Mail can be delivered to any mailbox that has Allow Inventory Drop set to TRUE. First, you need to find one of our boxes, which are located at the following parcels:
To use the service, select Send a Package from the menu. Enter the legacy name of the avatar you want the package sent to into the textbox IE: ThomasHooker Resident.

Hold down the CTRL button and drag your item into the mailbox. Please include a notecard with the recipient’s name and the location of the delivery. The package must be transfer enabled or we cannot deliver it.

We will pick up the package at our earliest availability. We try to always deliver in character, and using realistic vehicles to do so but in some cases that is not possible. We will walk the package to the destination if we cannot use vehicles in that area, for example a roleplay region that does not allow non-residents to use vehicles.

We will place a mailbox at your location. I will need an invite to the land owning group, however, I will leave the group once the mailbox is placed.

Bay City Post - January 2017

Happy 2017 from Bay City!

WELCOME to the sixty-fourth issue of the Bay City Post - Keeping you updated on the best city on the Grid! Let's see what's happening in our fair city as we move into a brand new year!

The annual Prim Drop was held at the Fairgrounds on New Year's Eve, with our own (Not The) Mayori, Marianne McCann, spinning tunes in remembrance of the many musicians we lost in 2016. Everyone was dressed to the nines as they danced the night away (see our Police Chief TJ Hooker and his lovely wife Silvia, below.) There was a fantastic fireworks display at midnight SLT as the party-goers watched the Prim drop. The event was the last chance for people to donate to Child's Play Charity, and today it was announced that our winter fundraising totaled L$163,892! Thank you to everyone for the incredible generosity; that will buy a lot of toys for children in the hospital!

I asked a few Bay City Citizens if they had resolutions for 2017, and this is what I heard:

AÑƒÎ±Đ¼Ñ” Ƙιηтѕυgι-Mσση (zombiegal): I am looking forward to working on more events to help promote Bay City to the rest of the SecondLife grid in an inclusive and welcoming environment. I am also looking forward to seeing those events help to further promote our efforts towards raising money for the Child's Play charity. In short, more events. Let's have some!

Marianne McCann: focus on fun

T. J. Hooker (ThomasHooker): I'm going to try to learn to create mesh. Of course, I said that last year too :P

Angela Galway (Angela Seale): i resolve to do my best not to kill anyone, or grief any sandboxes for 2017 ;P

Need some Bay City-related recommendations for resolutions? Get involved! Attend one of the weekly Rumbles (click here for the year in review to see what fun we had in 2016), or visit The Pen on the first Tuesday of each month for Espresso Yourself! Join the Bay City Alliance group and attend weekly meetings at the Community Center. It's better than being on TV! (Well, maybe not better than ETv, but sometimes there are balloons, or very large boats, or wolves wearing cat food cans, or...oh nevermind, just show up and see for yourself!)

Don't forget to click on the columns to the left to see what our roving reporters were up to this month...and check out Qie's donut gift to everyone in the Cheeky Geek column! From all of us at the Bay City Post, we wish you a happy and healthy New Year!

Well, I guess we know where the prim dropped!

Bay City Post - December 2016

WELCOME to the sixty-third issue of the Bay City Post! - Keeping you updated on the best city on the Grid! Let's see what's happening in our fair city as December rolls around.

The biggest news this month, of course, was the coming of Primsmas! While Bay City has always enjoyed a double prim allowance, with the new increase residents can now do even more with their homes and shops. Just in time for some incredible holiday decorating! Speaking of decorations, there will be a Bay City Holiday Tour across the city on Thursday, December 22 at 4 PM SLT! We will run a guided tour of the best decorated parcels in the city, meeting up at a starting point , taking transportation from parcel to parcel, and showcasing each decorator's land and giving time for individuals to explore the parcel. We will end at the Bay City Fairgrounds for ice skating and hot chocolate! Bay City Residents - if you think your parcel is worthy of being a part of this tour, please contact Georgia Florence Sipe (lilaskyheart). Details to follow in a Bay City Alliance group announcement, so if you are not yet a member, now is the time to join!

Don't forget that tomorrow (December 3rd, 2016) is the Bay City Tree Lighting and Silent Auction (details in a full article below). Get your ice skates out and your bidding fingers ready, and we hope to see everyone tomorrow from 1-4 PM SLT on the Fairgrounds! For now, enjoy this month's articles by our amazing reporters (for new readers, these are located along the left sidebar) and a Happy Primsmas to one and all!

TOMORROW!!!

BAY CITY'S ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING, CONCERT, AND FUNDRAISER

by Ace Reporter, Marianne McCann

This event is now celebrating its 7th Annual observance.

The Bay City Alliance will host its holiday Tree Lighting event TOMORROW, Saturday, 3rd December 2016 from 1-4 pm SL. The event will be held at the Bay City Fairgrounds, in North Channel and will feature DJ GoSpeed of KONA Stream, and live performers Christov Kohnke and Zachh Cale. The event will also feature ice-skating, dancing, refreshments and a lot of fun for everyone, as well as the annual lighting of our Christmas tree.

Once again, Bay City will host a silent auction to support Child's Play Charity.  Bay City is a Silver Sponsor of Child's Play Charity, having raised over US$2,000.00 to support the work of the charity.  Second Life™ designers and artists have generously agreed to participate by providing fun, interesting, unique, or other transferable items (or a no-copy object that the auction winner can give to you to redeem their prize, if the item(s) have to be no transfer). Please join us, check out the items, and BID, BID, BID!

The auction will end at the conclusion of the event. All proceeds from the silent auction and from donation bins at the venue will go to Child's Play Charity. Child's Play is a 501c3 non profit organization offers online communities such as ours an opportunity to help seriously ill children around the globe during their hospital stays with the purchase of games and gaming equipment.

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab® and home to the Bay City Alliance. Bay City Post - August 2016

WELCOME to the fifty-ninth issue of the Bay City Post! - Keeping you updated on the best city on the grid!

August will bring with it Hot Bay City Nights, with car washes to benefit Child's Play charity, and the annual crowning of Miss Bay City! To keep updated on those exciting events, as well as Bay City's weekly rumble, monthly Espresso Night (see below), and occasional block parties, please feel free to join the Bay City Alliance group. Regular and varied community events are part of what makes Bay City unique, and if you are thinking of moving to our fair city, attending these events is a great way to get to know the people who already call Bay City home.

Two evenings ago, I attended Espresso Night at The Pen, a monthly event during which Bay City residents (or anyone from across the Grid!) are invited to gather together in a virtual coffeehouse to exchange stories, poems, ideas, joys and sorrows, or expound upon any topic imaginable - while remembering that The Pen is in a G-rated region, and that mimes, while occasionally entertaining, are expressly forbidden. It occurred to me during the evening what an unusual and wonderful thing we have in Espresso Night, and in the Bay City community in general. There are certainly private sims where communities exist, and where people gather to chat or have events. The difference is, those sims are generally started by a group of friends, so the communities which occur within them are already formed. Bay City is on the Mainland, and is comprised of 46 (!) sims. Certainly those of us who live or work there are not going to know all of our neighbors, and not all of us are going to get along all of the time. And yet, a strong-knit community does indeed exist  - of people who play together, work together on projects, and work out our occasional differences in a democratic way (such as throwing people in the canals or burning down the city on a regular basis). Seriously though, the community that exists here is something rare and unique, and I feel privileged to be a part of it.

A few months ago, I interviewed Torley Linden about his favorite places on the Mainland, and he placed The Pen, and Espresso Night in particular, at the top of his list. Here is what he had to say:

"In my early Second Life as a Linden, Robin Linden was a tremendously positive influence on me, and she gave me a book called The Great Good Place by Ray Oldenburg. It's about the importance of social surroundings like coffeeshops in creating community. (Context: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_place) To this day, I think one of the best examples of SL heritage is the monthly event hosted by Marianne McCann that breathes life into this beatnik building, which I've had the joy of attending on several occasions with friends. You mentioned Espresso Yourself in a previous post, and I recommend that any new Resident of Second Life should explore the broader Bay City — including the museum! — to get a feel for an abundant culture that continues to thrive over the years."

Echoing Torley's sentiments, if you are reading this paper, you are at least somewhat interested in Bay City and what happens here. I'd urge you to get more involved - attend some events or throw an event, get to know your neighbors, and stop by the Community Center for information and freebies, or to attend a weekly Bay City Alliance meeting. What makes this city fabulous is the people who live and work here, and all of the combined interests and efforts of those people. What will YOUR contribution be?

Bay City Post, June 2016

WELCOME to the fifty-seventh issue of the Bay City Post! - Keeping you updated on the best city on the grid!

It's June in our fair city, and that means summer fun: backyard barbecues, sailing out of New Port, riding the Lollercoaster at Hairy Hippo Fun Land, or just hanging out at the Blue Crystal Pool in Dennis. Speaking of pools, please remember that children - and their parents! - have lovely wading pools to use in both Morton and Maddequet, so leave those fire hydrants alone! The fire department thanks you, and so will our fire-prone city.

This month, the Bay City Post welcomes our newest columnist, Georgia Sipe, with her delightful fashion column, "Georgia's Closet". Among other things, Georgia runs Georgia's Beauty Parlor in Truro. Stop in for some juicy gossip and a great retro 'do!

June will also bring with it Second Life's 13th annual birthday party, SL13B, and Bay City will once again participate with an exhibit entitled "City of Adventure." An SLB exhibit (and the party being held there) was how I was first introduced to Bay City. I'm really looking forward to the exhibit, and to many more years of Bay City adventures.

And now, let's see what kind of adventures our reporters have been up to this month. On to the June issue of the Bay City Post!

BAY CITY GOES SILVER WITH CHILD'S PLAY
Fundraising efforts celebrated
by Marianne McCann, Ace Reporter

On the eve of our 8th Anniversary weekend, the Residents of Bay City are proud to announce the following:

Thanks in large part to our donations from our annual Hot Bay City Nights and holiday Tree Lighting & Silent Auction Events, as well as the generous Linden Dollar gift from Ivan Suen, Bay City is snow listed as a Silver Level sponsor on Child's Play's website. You'll see our logo on the main page of their website, at www.childsplaycharity.org

In addition, our donation kiosks are now transferred over to Child's Play Charity. They have announced this on their website at www.childsplaycharity.org/misc/secondlife. You can learn more about the organization and their efforts there.

Bay City has long been a supporter of Child's Play, both for their mission as well as their desire to keep a low overhead: meaning more money goes to help kids in need, not "administrative costs."

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab® and home to the Bay City Alliance. The Bay City Alliance was founded in 2008 to promote the Bay City regions of Second Life and provide a venue for Bay City Residents and other interested parties to socialize and network. It is now the largest group for Residents of Bay City.

Bay City Post, April 2016

WELCOME to the fifty-fifth issue of the Bay City Post! - Keeping you updated on the best city on the grid! Now with new, larger type for the aging eyes of Bay City citizens...or maybe that's just the eyes of the editor. ;)

Bay City Squares

In Bay City, we start April with a celebration of Ever's Night.  April 1st was the birthday of Ever Dreamscape, our erstwhile Post editor, mischief maker, fire starter, and host of many a late night game show. Many people in the City set their parcels on fire in her memory, and a game show was filmed in the lot next to the Post building. Pygar Bu hosted a lively edition of Bay City Squares, featuring nine "Bay City SLebrities" and contestants Miss Bay City Belle Mistwallow, and Truro resident Georgia Florence Sipe. From Pygar:

"Our winner of the Bay City Squares game was Georgia Florence Sipe of Truro! You will be able to spot her 'round town in her beautiful new car from 2ZM. Thanks also to our squares: Kinn, Ben, Mo, Uccie and Ange, Ant, Evola, Rachel, Roc and Mari. Hope you had fun! (thanks to Ashley for the pic!) <3 Py"

The banner featuring this year's Squares game is a gift from Bay City resident Littlebit31okla (Ashley Breil), taken by Rhy Briel. After the game show, Bay City danced the night away in the Post building's ballroom with DJ GoSpeed Racer providing the tunes, interspersed with sound clips from the original "Hollywood Squares" tv show. If you missed the fun, make sure to join us next year, or perhaps we can make this a semi-regular event!

Ceremonial Check On View At The Bay City Brewery!

A message from Ivan Suen: "All - Just to provide some closure to my announcement that I'm liquidating my land business and donating all proceeds to the charity of Bay City's choice.  I have indeed done such, and tonight all proceeds from my business have been donated to BayCitySL.  My only stipulation to my donation is that it be used towards something that would make Ever Dreamscape smile.  Please consider drinks on me at the Bay City Brewery. BayCitySL, your ceremonial check is waiting for you at the brewery. -I"

The majority of the proceeds of Ivan's generosity - $555,000L! - will go towards Child's Play, a nonprofit organization
dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in over 100 hospitals worldwide. The remainder will go to the Bay City event fund to help ensure community shenanigans throughout the year (and raise more bucks for Child's Play!) Thank you, Ivan!
