Storm At The Rumble

Rumble Takeoff!
Last Thursday, despite a mild storm, the airplane rumble continued. The start at at airport Hau Koda was without much problems as the planes took to the sky on their way to Abbotts.

One of the airplanes was the Bay City Postal Service that had a truckload of mail and parcels with it. The pilot was Postmaster Thomas Hooker combining work with pleasure. Kinnaird sat in the back, taking picures.

Half way to Abbotts, near Luna Point, winds started to pick up, a storm was brewing.

With a tailwind the Bay City Postal Service machine, a modern Douglas DC-3, went like lightning so fast.

Coming near Abbotts the pilot slammed on the brakes, without much effect as the airplane was still in the air and heavy loaded.

The only way to reduce speed was to wiggle wobble towards the airport hoping to loose speed, or go-around. Since the postal service is always in a hurry a go-around was not an option.

The pilot screamed into the mike "GIVE ME ROOM!" as the machine came hurtling towards the tarmac. The other machines of the rumble went well out of the way of the doomed machine.

Just as planned...

With a magic wiggle wobble the pilot landed the machine sideways on the runway (some luck might have been involved). After that the passenger ran towards the restroom for some needed R and R.

Some mainlanders will receive a parcel with broken goods inside.

The airport at Hau Koda is often full, delaying planned departs. For that the Bay city counsel has proposed to build an additional airport at Moose Beach. Citizens from Shermerville and Molesworth have united to fight this proposal threatening to take it to the highest court. They fear an increase of airplane traffic and noise pollution. City counsel suggested "plug your ears with a prim".

Airport at Moose Beach planned?

The Bay City Alliance organizes every week on Thursday a rumble. Everybody is invited. Keep an eye out for announcements in the Bay City Alliance group or ask someone from Bay City. The rumble starts mostly around 7 PM SLT. A more Europe friendly time has been tried but wasn't much of a success.

The rumbles are races with planes, trains & automobiles, and boats. Join us!

[edit: the Zoom meeting we used to make this report had a few hiccups. The original report mentions Kinn as the pilot, it was Thomas. No pizza for the reporter! (Vick)]

Warbug Rumble

Most Thursdays the Bay City Alliance organizes the Bay City Rumble. We fly, race boats, race cars and demolish things. Each week there is a different lead for the rumble. It is great fun and if you can, try it out.
On one bright Thursday, February 13th, the Bay City Fairgrounds was (were?) transformed into an airfield. Marianne McCann had the lead of this rumble and there is one thing the little resident loves, airplanes. For this Rumble she wanted to celebrate two things. One was a special video named Aviation Made InSecond Life where she narrated the video and second is a special edition of Warbugs with a Warbug designed by her.
Warbugs are tiny caricatures of planes that can shoot and be damaged. On a board the score can be read out and winners and less fortunates can be listed. The Warbugs have exceptional flying capabilities. It gives rezzers so that visitors can use them.
This Rumble was to be with Warbugs.
As expected the Rumble participants went out first to try out their dangerous flying machines. Next the real battle took place. The airplanes went up, and down, machineguns rattled, planes were hit and stumbled to the airfield to be repaired. Others flew out of control and buried themselves deep into the ground or tried diving the deep seas.
At the end of the carnage one rusty citizen, in need of oil, was victorious, Felix Eldritch.
Keep an eye out for future Rumbles and join us! Everybody is welcome!

Bay City Post - September 2017

WELCOME to the seventy-second issue of the Bay City Post — Keeping you updated on the best city on the Grid!
___________________________________________________

Miss Bay City 2017

We have a brand new Miss Bay City — our very own DJ extraordinaire, GoSpeed Rasere (GoSpeed Racer) !

GoSpeed can often be found DJing events in our fair city. She stated that she was excited to be chosen as this year's Miss Bay City, and is honored to represent the best of who we are, both at events here at home and further abroad throughout the Grid! If you see her out and about, please say hello!

And don't forget to check out GoSpeed's business enterprise, Bay City's favorite radio station — KONA Stream! Still alive and kicking after nearly 11 years in world, their homepage is www.konastream.com.

Smash 'Em Up Derby, Bay City Style

Our very own ADudeNamedAnthony, host of the Thursday Rumbles, occasionally gives us an extra-special treat. The Demolition Derby is a glorious and chaotic Rumble, with cars scripted to fall apart gradually. The more the cars crash into each other, the more they fall apart...and they may even burst into flames!

If you are not already a member, join the Bay City Alliance group for notices of events like these. Or, think about hosting your own event and highlighting your own business or property! If you've not yet noticed, Bay City Citizens love to play!

Bay City Souvenirs

The Plaza Hotel is currently sponsoring some land for a Bay City Souvenirs shop on the Dennis sim. It is located across the street from the Bay City History Pavilion and next to Hyperbole Tower.

The souvenirs store offers Bay City visitors and resident all sorts of Bay City souvenirs. At the moment a few souvenirs have been made and rezzed in the store. But more are needed!

DONATIONS
We would like to call on all of you to donate a Bay City freebie. We are still looking for Bay City greeting cards (textures), for our postcard stand. But if you can also think of a gift from your store — maybe a fine Bay City wine, a t-shirt, scarfs, flags, toys....anything is welcome to fill up this wonderful store!

DELIVERY
A few things needs to be taken in consideration:
— The object is (of course) Bay city related; either to sim or your Bay city shop, location, occupation, etc.
— It needs to be set for sale; so it needs to be transferable. Deliver the object full perm with your instruction as to to which permissions you like to have it set to.
— There is a terminal in the store where you can deliver your goods! Drag your object with control-shift onto the top of the delivery boxes.

If this is complicated or is not working out, you can contact Roc (Roc Plutonian), enola em (enola Vaher) or Laoin Xaris.

SUGGESTION
Add a notecard with your object to tell about your place in Bay City and LM.

We are looking forward to your goods!

Bay City Post - January 2017

Happy 2017 from Bay City!

WELCOME to the sixty-fourth issue of the Bay City Post - Keeping you updated on the best city on the Grid! Let's see what's happening in our fair city as we move into a brand new year!

The annual Prim Drop was held at the Fairgrounds on New Year's Eve, with our own (Not The) Mayori, Marianne McCann, spinning tunes in remembrance of the many musicians we lost in 2016. Everyone was dressed to the nines as they danced the night away (see our Police Chief TJ Hooker and his lovely wife Silvia, below.) There was a fantastic fireworks display at midnight SLT as the party-goers watched the Prim drop. The event was the last chance for people to donate to Child's Play Charity, and today it was announced that our winter fundraising totaled L$163,892! Thank you to everyone for the incredible generosity; that will buy a lot of toys for children in the hospital!

I asked a few Bay City Citizens if they had resolutions for 2017, and this is what I heard:

Aуαмє Ƙιηтѕυgι-Mσση (zombiegal): I am looking forward to working on more events to help promote Bay City to the rest of the SecondLife grid in an inclusive and welcoming environment. I am also looking forward to seeing those events help to further promote our efforts towards raising money for the Child's Play charity. In short, more events. Let's have some!

Marianne McCann: focus on fun

T. J. Hooker (ThomasHooker): I'm going to try to learn to create mesh. Of course, I said that last year too :P

Angela Galway (Angela Seale): i resolve to do my best not to kill anyone, or grief any sandboxes for 2017 ;P

Need some Bay City-related recommendations for resolutions? Get involved! Attend one of the weekly Rumbles (click here for the year in review to see what fun we had in 2016), or visit The Pen on the first Tuesday of each month for Espresso Yourself! Join the Bay City Alliance group and attend weekly meetings at the Community Center. It's better than being on TV! (Well, maybe not better than ETv, but sometimes there are balloons, or very large boats, or wolves wearing cat food cans, or...oh nevermind, just show up and see for yourself!)

Don't forget to click on the columns to the left to see what our roving reporters were up to this month...and check out Qie's donut gift to everyone in the Cheeky Geek column! From all of us at the Bay City Post, we wish you a happy and healthy New Year!

Bay City Celebrated its Fifth Year

BAY CITY, SL (1st May, 2013) - In May of 2008 the Linden Department of Public Works unveiled its first project, the themed city area on the Second Life™ Mainland known as Bay City. Now, as Bay City turns five, its community invites everyone to join us in celebrating this milestone.
Anniversary celebrations kicked off at noon on Sunday, the 19th of May, with a parade lineup at the bandshell in Bay City - Harwich. The parade will made its way down Route 66 and concluded at the Bay City Fairgrounds in the North Channel region.
A live concert kicked off at the Fairgrounds, and featured Christov Kohnke, CelticMaidenWarrior Lancaster, and RoseDrop Rust, and including GoSpeed Racer of KONA Stream providing music leading into the event.
We had a big crowd of Second Life residents participating. Celebration goods were available at the Bay City Community Center, and there were numerous people along the route cheering on participants.
*Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab™ and home to the Bay City Alliance. The Bay City Alliance was founded in 2008 to promote the Bay City regions of Second Life™ and provide a venue for Bay City Residents and other interested parties to socialize and network. It is now the largest Bay City group, and home to most Residents of Bay City.*

Security Breach at Post

An unknown assailant wickedly vandalized the Post office last weekISH by defaming the pictures of our oh so-so very refined Post staffers. Sadly, we had to take drastic measures and totally randomly rezz security cameras around the Hyperbole Tower where the Post is now located. Don’t let this happen to you!

Editors Note: Uccie… you forgot the picture of our Patron of the pArts, Roc Plutonium… better luck next time ;D

In 2008, Discover magazine calculated that, if every bit of information stored in a chip comprises 40,000 electrons, the total weight of all the information flowing across the internet – books, music, photographs, emails, orders, porn, spam – is two millionths of an ounce – about the same as a grain of sand. -http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/qi/8419186/QI-Quite-interesting-facts-about-the-Internet.html
